The BEST WESTERN AHORN Hotel Birkenhof is located at the foot of the Fichtelberg, right on the ski slope, the summer toboggan run and a short walk from the city center, quiet but central.
Oberwiesenthal is the highest city in Germany. It is located at 914 m altitude at the foot of the 1214 m high Fichtelberg. A special attraction is the 1924-built, and thus Germany's oldest cable car, linking an altitude of 303 m between mountain and valley. Even the now over 100 years circulating steam-powered railway between Cranzahl and Oberwiesenthal attracts many visitors. From its predecessors, the stagecoach, a wonderful post-column distance testifies to the market place of Oberwiesenthal. Oberwiesenthal is a border station to the Czech Republic. Karlsbad, one of the three pools of the world famous Czech spa triangle, can be reached in about half an hour. Oberwiesenthal is also known as a sports center and Olympic Training Center, as well as the venue for various sports top events. Even old traditions are maintained in the Erzgebirge enthusiastic. Not only the clappers, and the carving and folk traditions are alive everywhere.
